Gyaneshwari Yadav Wins Silver, Secures India’s 5th Medal at Commonwealth Games 2026

India added another medal to its tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as 23-year-old Gyaneshwari Yadav delivered a remarkable performance to win the silver medal in the Women’s 53kg weightlifting event.

The young Indian lifter registered a personal-best total of 199kg, marking one of the finest performances of her career. She was flawless throughout the competition, successfully completing all six of her attempts without a single failed lift.

Gyaneshwari also etched her name into the record books by lifting 88kg in the snatch, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the Women’s 53kg category.

Nigeria’s lifter claimed the gold medal with a total lift of 206kg, while Canada took the bronze medal with a total of 178kg.

With Gyaneshwari’s silver, India now has five medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, and remarkably, four of them have come from weightlifting.
