Hockey India has announced the Indian squads for the 2026 Asian Games, and before that, the biggest challenge of the year awaits.
The FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 will be held from 15 August to 30 August in Belgium and the Netherlands, where both the men’s and women’s teams will compete against the best teams in the world.
If you closely look at Indian hockey over the last five years, it has been a journey full of ups and downs.
We won the historic Olympic Bronze Medal in Tokyo, ending a 41-year wait. Then came the disappointment of the 2023 Hockey World Cup, where despite playing at home, India failed to qualify for the knockout stage.
But champions always bounce back.
Just a year later, India once again stood on the Olympic podium, winning another Bronze Medal at the Paris Olympics. Winning back-to-back Olympic medals is not a small achievement. It shows that Indian hockey is moving in the right direction.
And that’s why I believe this is the beginning of a new era for Indian hockey.
We have one of the strongest squads in recent years. We have experienced leaders, exciting young talent, and a team that believes it can beat anyone on its day.
The dream is no longer just about winning medals.
The dream is to make India one of the most dominant hockey nations in the world once again.
The World Cup is the first big test.
If India performs well in Belgium and the Netherlands, the confidence going into the Asian Games 2026 will be massive. Winning the Asian Games would not only add another major title but also strengthen India’s position among the world’s top hockey nations.
This team has already shown what it can do.
Two Olympic bronze medals, consistent performances against the top nations, and a fearless style of hockey have given Indian fans a new belief.
Now it’s time to take the next step.
Can this team lift the Hockey World Cup after 51 years?
Can it dominate Asia once again at the Asian Games?
The next few months could define the future of Indian hockey.
And if this group executes its plans well, we might just be witnessing the start of another golden era.
