When Vaibhav Suryavanshi walked onto the field to make his debut for India, it wasn’t just a proud moment for him and his family. It was a moment that every sports lover in Bihar celebrated.
For many young athletes across the state, his journey became proof that a child from Bihar can dream big and wear the Indian jersey.
But his success also made me think about something.
Is Vaibhav the only talented youngster in Bihar?
I don’t believe so.
If you’ve ever travelled through villages in Bihar, you’ll know that children play cricket everywhere—on empty fields, school grounds, village roads and even narrow lanes. Some use proper cricket bats, while many still play with tennis balls and homemade wickets.
The passion has always been there.
The talent has always been there.
The opportunities haven’t.
Talent Is Not Bihar’s Problem
Every year, thousands of children across Bihar dream of becoming cricketers, footballers, athletes, wrestlers and badminton players.
Unfortunately, many of those dreams end long before they should.
Not because these children lack talent.
Not because they don’t work hard.
But because they don’t have access to proper coaching, quality grounds, equipment or regular competitions.
In many villages, children don’t even know where to begin their sports journey. By the time they discover an opportunity, many have already crossed the age where early training could have made a real difference.
That’s a reality thousands of families understand.
A Step in the Right Direction
This is why the Bihar Government’s latest initiative deserves attention.
The Bihar Rajya Khel Pradhikaran has opened registrations for Gram Panchayat Khel Clubs, an initiative aimed at bringing organized sports closer to villages.
The idea is simple.
Instead of expecting every young athlete to travel far in search of opportunities, why not build a sports culture within the village itself?
If every Gram Panchayat has an active sports club, children can start playing earlier, practice regularly and become part of an organized sporting environment.
No single scheme can solve every challenge overnight, but building a stronger grassroots system is an important first step.

The registration is open for people and organizations that want to promote sports in their villages, including:
- Sports clubs
- Coaches
- Players
- Sports enthusiasts
- Gram Panchayat representatives

Today, nobody knows their names, A few years from now, the entire country might, Every champion starts somewhere. Sometimes, all it takes is one ground, one coach, one opportunity and one person who believes in them.
If initiatives like the Gram Panchayat Khel Club are implemented well and reach every village, Bihar could produce many more athletes capable of competing at the highest level. Because talent has never been Bihar’s biggest challenge. Creating opportunities has been. Let’s hope this initiative helps change that.
