India to Host World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028: A Historic Moment for Indian Sports

It’s a historic moment for India as the country has officially secured the hosting rights for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2028.
The prestigious event will take place at the Kalinga Indoor Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

This is a massive achievement for Indian athletics. Hosting such a big global event not only puts India on the world map but also gives a huge opportunity for our athletes to perform and win medals on home soil. Interestingly, just last month at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026, not a single Indian athlete managed to qualify. But now, with India set to host in 2028, it’s time for Indian athletes to step up—not just qualify, but aim for medals in the competition.

Another interesting point to watch will be the scheduling of this event in 2028, as the Los Angeles Olympics are also in the same year. It will be exciting to see how World Athletics plans the calendar around these two major events. This achievement is also a big boost for Indian athletics and the overall sports ecosystem. India is now consistently hosting some of the world’s biggest sporting events. After nearly two decades, India will host the Commonwealth Games 2030 in Ahmedabad, with the last edition held in New Delhi in 2010.

Looking ahead, India is also aiming to host the Olympics 2036, and preparations have already started. A new sports city is being planned in Gujarat as part of this vision.

Recently, India also hosted the Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026, one of the biggest tournaments in cricket history. On top of that, talks are ongoing about the return of Formula 1 in India, with the Noida circuit potentially coming back into action

All of this clearly shows one thing — India is rapidly becoming a global hub for hosting some of the biggest sporting events in the world
