The Indian Women’s Hockey Team delivered a dominant performance against Wales in their final group-stage match, securing an impressive 4–1 victory in the World Cup Qualifiers. With this win, India finished at the top of Pool B, booked a place in the semifinals, and also qualified for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026.
India Start Strong
India began the match with an aggressive approach and controlled the game from the very start. Their attacking intent paid off early when Sakshi Rana opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the match.
It was a special moment for the young player as she scored her first-ever international goal for the Indian Senior Women’s Team, giving India a deserved early lead.
Navneet Kaur Doubles the Lead Before Halftime

She collected the ball brilliantly and slotted it into the goal to double India’s advantage.
At halftime, India were leading comfortably 2–0, clearly in control of the match.
Navneet Kaur Takes Charge in the Second Half

In the 34th minute, she struck again after India earned another penalty corner opportunity. This time, she made no mistake and converted the chance perfectly to complete her brace and extend India’s lead.
Hat-trick Sealed in the Final Quarter
Navneet Kaur’s brilliant performance reached another level in the 54th minute when India won a penalty stroke after a well-created attacking move.

A Big Moment for Indian Women’s Hockey
With this important win, India not only advanced to the semifinals of the qualifiers but also secured qualification for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026.
This result is especially significant for the Indian team as they continue rebuilding after a disappointing phase where they missed qualification for the Paris Olympics. At the Tokyo Olympics, India had come agonizingly close to winning a historic medal but narrowly missed the opportunity.
Eyes on a Bigger Dream
This current squad represents a new wave of belief and ambition in Indian women’s hockey. The team is not only preparing to perform strongly at the 2026 World Cup, but they are also dreaming of qualifying for the 2028 Olympics and possibly achieving what the previous generation came so close to.
With young talents emerging and experienced players stepping up at crucial moments, this Indian side is showing the hunger and determination needed to compete at the highest level.
And if performances like this continue, the dream of World Cup success and an Olympic breakthrough might not be too far away.
